Preloved Presents TWENTY with Kathy from Redwood Classics

Kathy is one of the most admirable business women I've had the pleasure to meet and consistently work with! Redwood Classics is a Made in Canada company. Their pieces can be seen department stores, resorts, universities and corporate companies across North America. Redwood has been Preloved's ongoing collaborators. We love working closely with Kathy and her team. On work days, Kathy can often be seen wearing Preloved around the office, which makes her such an amazing supporter of what we do.

Being Julia - Throwback Trench

This skirt is still one of my all time favourite pieces.  As we embark on our 20th anniversary, I am having a ball going through some of  the preloved classics.   This skirt was made for our SS2009 collection, and is made from an old trench coat!  The design on this still blows me away,  although the pain of producing it is still fresh.  The Georgie Trench Skirt was produced back in the day, when the design team worked in one room, and the production team in another.  There wasn't a ton of communication between the two.  When I first saw this skirt in the design meeting, I fell in love, and thought it was totally a work of art!  What we didn't realize was how specific the vintage requirements were.  It had to be produced from double breasted trench coat (with perfect buttons)  the vent on the back of the coat had to be a certain measurement and the original pockets had to be in a certain placement.  I think we must have gone through thousands of trench coats, to find the ones that would be come the Georgie Trench Skirt.  This skirt was a turning point in how we produce, and how we design, and how the two teams need to work together!    Stay tuned for more preloved classics.  #prelovedturns20

Spring Pop-up Shop!

We hosted our first Pop Up of the year earlier this month!  This time we crashed in on Cabbagetown .  It was so fun meeting and greeting with some of our die hard preloved fans, and a chance to put a face to a few of our new online fans!  Brenda It was so awesome to be back on the retail floor!  So glad the weather was great and love the Cabbagetown area, the community was very supportive and sad that we were only there for 4 days ! Don't worry, we'll be back soon .  See you shopping soon!

Being Julia: Refresh & Renew

I really never bore of white on white, and I have been quite the rule breaker lately.  'No whites after labour day, or before the 24th of may' seems to have been thrown out the window lately.  I used to totally life by that rule.  Then they invented 'winter white'.  I think that had to have been one smart fashionable Canadian, that realized our summers are just too darn short, and white was meant to be apart of the wardrobe no matter what the temperature is!

Being Julia: Nearly Spring

These pants are still one of my all time favourite pants.  We originally made them for SS2010, ( A little ahead of the good old drop crotch trend) and are still completely on trend for this spring.  The asymmetrical tie, the 3/4 length and high waist are key points, that have this pant on mark for SS2015.  Not to mention they are made from 100% recycled wool..( vintage men's wool pants, given a new life).  I love the fact that here at preloved, we are able to create a classic piece that can be worn season after season.  Now my husband may not agree that a drop crotch pant is a classic, but what does he know!  xoxo

Being Julia : White Light/White Heat

I am not sure if March went out like a lamb or a lion, but I am little sad to see it go!  Oh don't get me wrong, I can't wait to toss away the sorrel boots, and bust out my toe exposed shoes,  but I am a little melancholy, that our winter season is over.  Over the years I have learned to not just 'deal' with winter, but totally embrace it. I don't know if its the cold mornings, with the sun bouncing off the snow that I love, or that every weekend, I trap my kids on a ski hill far far away from any Ipads.  Whatever it is, I will miss you Mr. Winter.  but may forget you quite quickly with the first glass of Chardonnay on the dock..just saying!

Being Julia: See Ya Latte

Went to Pittsburg yesterday to speak at the Art Institute.  I was the Key Note Speaker at their  fashion show, "Show With A Purpose'  I have been to 3 different states and 2 countries in almost 24 hours, Toronto to Atlanta then back up to Pittsburg, now from Detroit and home to Toronto ! I've mastered connecting to airport wifi connections now . I love these short little getaways, mainly spent at the airport, and a hotel bed to myself!!  but there is no place like home! (Note: Double Denim, Canadian Tuxedo)

Oh the joys of shooting spring clothing in CANADA!  Nothing makes you feel like summer is almost here, then when you land right in the middle of a snow bank. Gotta work on my 'hurdle' jump a bit... Oh well at least we have sun, and this white stuff does melt ......eventually ....

Being Julia : Superstar

I love these shoes so much.  They were a valentine gift from my husband! ( anything that could also work on a tennis court is good enough for him) We searched high and low for these 'superstars' by adidas to use in our AW2015 look book shoot, but we couldn't find them anywhere.  Then the model walks in wearing them. ( a total professional).  I couldn't get my mind off of these shoes. I am sure I owned a pair of them in grade 8, but needed them this season...and then they showed up all wrapped in red...so much better than chocolate ! xo

Being Julia : Leather Weather

This is what I call my 'winter in LA' look.  I always laugh when I see shots of bloggers (that are fortunate to live in a climate that doesn't drop below 0 degrees) and they are 'dressed for winter'.  Or they have a cute caption "baby it's cold out', and they are wearing a sweater and ripped jeans.  They have NO idea what cold is, and how it affects your footwear choices.!  I love that each morning before school,  I dress my kids in snow pants, hats, mitts, coat, and I walk out the back door in high heels with no socks!  My theory is, if I pretend long enough, the snow will actually melt away. Either that or I will have frostbite before the end of March! xo

Being Julia: Pretty in Pink

I am all over this pastel pallet for spring.  I wouldn't consider myself a pastel girl, but this season, it seems all I want to wear are pinks, blues and yellow's, which is quite the departure from my typical all black ensembles. I think it's just an easier way to get though the winter blah's.  Add a little pink to your day,  and before you know it, spring will arrive...here's hoping!

Resort 2015 Behind the Scenes

Here is a cute little behind the scenes video of latest vintage shoot.   I have to say, carry the vintage clothing on our site, is a total labour of love, and passion of mine.   We ain't running off to Tahiti with the margins on this line I tell ya. But it is something that everyone here at preloved, just loves.  It is the thrill of the find that keeps us all going,  and it continues to inspires us in our design process of our own collections.  So take a peek here, and here!  For the record, I am the only one in the office, that can truly work the fan!!  It's not in the arms, it takes the whole body !! That's 20 years experience right there!

Coming Soon! Spring 2015

Oh it's coming  It may not feel like it these days, but before you know spring 2015 will be here,  Along with it comes our incredible spring summer collection.    We shot the collection the other day, and here is a sneak peak of what will be hitting getpreloved.com on February 15th!  Can't wait.  Don't ask about the pineapples.  It was the most tropical accessory we could find in the middle of January.  and just happens to be my kids favourite fruit.  gotta love a set you can eat!
