Jules Approved: SPF

Summer’s almost here! And the beautiful weather makes you want to skip work, drop off the kids to your parents', call up your girlfriends and grab lunch/drinks in a cozy patio. But patio weather must be celebrated with caution - so protect, prime and prep your skin with some of my favourite SPFs.

1.  Vichy// IDÉAL SOLEIL ULTRA-LIGHT LOTION SPF 50 - Doesn’t leave white film, so it’s perfect for all skin tones.

2. NARS// PURE RADIANT TINTED MOISTURIZER BROAD SPECTRUM SPF 30 - Protection with a coverage.

3. Murad// INVISIBLUR™ PERFECTING SHIELD BROAD SPECTRUM SPF 30 - Protects and primes the skin for an even complexion.

4. Clarins// SUN CARE SPRAY MILK SPF 50 - Age-defying sun care.

Jules Approved: Living Room Modani Challenge

I love home fashion just as much as I love women's wear. Modani offers modern and contemporary furniture that is right up my alley! I took their modern couch and spiced it up with some fun patterns and even some Preloved!

1. Sofa // Modani
White, contemporary sofas are my personal favourite. You need a lot of space for the whole family to come together. White sofas also allow the freedom to introduce many prints and patterns to the room in other ways.

2. Chair // Crate & Barrel
On the other hand, I love statement furniture! This chair from Crate & Barrel is the perfect statement piece for any room.

3. Picture Frames // Zara Home
I like to personalize a space with family photos. These metallic dot picture frames from Zara Home add just enough sparkle into the space. In my eyes, these frames are perfect for displaying my kids' school pictures.

4. Coffee Table Book // Chapters
Every coffee table needs a nice book to sit on top of it. Fashion books make the best coffee table books... But maybe that's just my personal bias.

5. Throw // Preloved
These throws are one of our best selling home items year after year. Made from upcycled sweaters, they will keep you toasty warm when relaxing around the house. They're available in three different colours to match any living space.

6. Candle Holders // Brika
Candles make a room more warm and homey, therefore they're essential. These wooden holders tie in with the other wooden accents I chose for this room.

7. Coffee Table // Morba
A chunky, wooden coffee table in the center of the room makes a statement while serving as a functional piece of furniture. This table ties the whole room together while being the most used item in the room.

8. Pillow // Tonic Living
Part of the reason I love white sofas is because you're able to dress them with decorative pillows. These pillows add tons of character to the room by adding pops of colour throughout. Plus, you want to be comfy while kickin' around the house!

9. Side Table // Black Rooster Decor
This little table is the perfect mix of modern and contemporary by mixing woods and metals.

10. Storage // Ikea
Every parent knows just how essential storage is in a living space. These rattan baskets are perfect to put anything in to keep the living space looking clean and fresh at all times.

Jules Approved: Resort 2015 Collections

I have been in this business too long,  because I am old enough to remember when we only had to design two seasons - Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer. Now I can't even count how many sessions  there are...'pre-fall', 'spring 1', 'holiday'..but I can tell you for sure my favourite 'new' season is Resort..below are a few of my fave collections this season

Favourite Resort 2015 looks

Smythe
Smythe is a Canadian brand, known for their jackets and coats. I just love the the contrast between classic tailoring and modern edge. You just know when something is made well.
Suno
Suno is a New York womenswear brand created by Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty. They are a fashion business with a conscience. They make use of talent from Kenya, Peru and India and incorporate their signature patterns, textures and prints to their designs.
Michael Kors
Michael Kors has become a household name. He started off designing women's sportswear and is now creating feminine dresses with a hint of much needed masculinity.
Free People
Free People is a fashion clothing chain that presents boho inspired pieces. I'm really digging the styling in their campaign, and feel free people really meshes will with preloved! xoxo

Throwback..way back

I love this collage that Mandy, our intern made! I am not sure where she even found half of these photo's.  I'm also afraid to say, that some of  these could have been shot, while Mandy was in grade one.. Gotta love working with my young interns...As long as they don't compare me to their mom's , I will be fine.  The best compliment I got from Ashley once was,  "don't worry Jules, from behind, you look like you are 27'...what the hell do I look like from the front! ha ha!  happy Thursday everyone!

JULES APPROVED: Halter Dress

1. SHORT NECKLACE // H&M
With the high-neckline nature of a halter top, you'll need a short simple necklace as an accessory. This chain necklace will add just the right amount of bling, without taking away the from the halter style.

2. FUN PRINT // PRELOVED.CA
Pattern mixing is always a fine art, but never be afraid to give it a try. With this halter dress, it's already combined two fun patterns so you don't need to work it out yourself.

3. 50'S INSPIRED // KENZO
You can't really think halter dress without thinking Marilyn Monroe or the 50's for that matter. This cute flared dress is fit for a cocktail party or for a drive around town in a convertible.

4. STRAPPY SANDAL // ZARA
It's a bit early to approve sandals, here in Canada ... But we can be hopeful and stock up on some sandals to prepare for some sunshine which will go perfectly with any halter style dress to look extra Goddess-esque.

5. CROCHET // MODCLOTH
There are some amazing crochet and lace halter dresses out there, and it will have you feeling extra whimsical and sophisticated in this off-white flowy piece.

6. SHOULDER BAG // REBECCA MINKOFF
Throwing on yesterday's dress to run out for errands? You'll need this (cult classic) shoulder bag to hold just what you need.

7. FLORAL // PRELOVED.CA
Since floral is a must for spring, why not have a floral halter dress?

8. LEAF HEADBAND // ASOS.COM
Again, playing off of the Goddess look, add a golden leaf headband for a basic accessory.

JULES APPROVED: Colour-Blocking

1. HEELS // ZARA
"Don't wear black with navy" is somehow a fashion rule, but i'm sure we all know that colourblocking black and blue is totally okay! This heel is already colourblocked, but if you have a bold coloured heel, pair it with other brights or neutrals to do your own colourblocking .

2. PATTERNED SKIRT // BOOHOO
Patterns with solid colours are ways to colour block without clashing two bright or contrasting colours. Stay en-trend with monochrome and colour blocking with black and white patterns with solid colours.

3. BLOUSE // TED BAKER
Get ready for spring with some floral and baby pink! Slowly inch your way into full on floral during the winter to spring transition.

4. TIGHTS // FOREVER 21
Transform whatever you already have in your closet to a colourblocked outfit just by adding coloured tights. These come in any colour you can imagine, plus they're super inexpensive to experiment with.

5. SHADES // ASOS.com
Colourblocked sunnies are great for those that are stepping out of their comfort zone with bright colours. These sunglasses have colour on the inside, but still very chic and trendy.

6. NAIL VARNISH // ESSIE
Don't forget about the manicure! Not only can your clothes and accessories be colourblocked, your nails can follow the trend too. Plus, colourblocking is probably the easiest DIY manicure to do! (Tip: use tape.)

7. HAT // STAMPD
Having a bad hair day won't stop you from being fab! Have a go to beanie to conceal a bad hair day that can go with any outfit, or just to keep you warm and cozy.

8. BLUE MASCARA // DIOR
Use some colourful mascara on your lashes over your eye make up for a easy colourblocking make up look. Just swipe on like any other mascara and go!

9. BRIGHT PURSE // 3.1 PHILIP LIM
Contrast your outfit with a coloured purse. If your closet is already full of solid colours or bold patterns, and bag can help you colourblock for everyday outfits.

10. RAGLAN SLEEVE // PRELOVED
For more casual days, a raglan sleeve (AKA baseball sleeve) tee or dress is a great colourblocking option.

Jules Approved: Spring Must Haves

1. OMBRÉ TOP // GAP
Dip-dye seems like an undying cult favourite. The trend continues through spring and blouses like this a perfect for spring layering.
2. TRENCH COAT // VERO MODA @the bay
The classic trench holds a huge british vibe to it, mainly because of its rain repellant qualities. And even though we won't be expecting as much rain as the brits, its still good to rock a chic trench.
3. BRIGHT BAG // BANANA REPUBLIC
If you're not quite sure how to transition from gloomy winter to spring, start with a bright bag.
4. FUN PHONE CASE // H&M
Sometimes we forget the iPhone is a everyday accessory. Don't forget your iPhone needs to change her style between seasons too!
5. NAUTICAL STRIPES // ZARA
We've been seeing a lot of resort and nautical themes on the runway for Spring 2014, so add a bit of nautical scarf as a go to.
6. FLORAL EAU de TOILETTE // MARC JACOBS @sephora
Everyone has been raving about Marc Jacobs' Daisy perfume, and they just came out with the new Eau So Fresh. Switch it up this spring with a new perfume.

Light yellow trousers will brighten up your outfit, venture out to more colourful khakis after the winter.
8. PASTEL PINK // PRELOVED
Pastel colours are must haves for any spring, and will always be trendy. Pastel pink, blue, yellow or green are almost inevitable.

Floral and spring come hand in hand (it only makes sense!).  With a wide selection of floral dresses out there, stock up on dresses with the perfect shape and print you love!
